Since opening our doors in 2011, The Art Therapy Project has served more than 6,100 clients supporting all ages, backgrounds and communities. Every year, we serve more than 1,200+ clients including adults and youth, and offer 34 weekly group art therapy sessions with 24+ program partners. Through the creative process, we go beyond traditional talk therapy.
The following statistics are through December 2018.
Clients Served Since 2011
Since opening our doors first serving female veterans, we have expanded to supporting both youth and adults including court-involved youth, survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, LGTBQ+ community, and more.
Adults Served in 2018
Adults in our art therapy groups find new ways to express emotions and tell their stories, connect with others with similar experiences and find hope for the future.
Youth Served in 2018
Our youth art therapy groups support resilience and positive connections by utilizing developmentally appropriate interventions related to emotional needs and goals.
Welcoming All Backgrounds
Serving Our Community
Supporting All Ages
In 2008, Founder and Board Chair David Wasserman began supporting the MPS Art Therapy Program at the School of Visual Arts’ (SVA) efforts to provide art therapy for female veterans in New York. The Art Therapy Outreach Center (ATOC) received its official nonprofit designation in July 2010 and, with a commitment from SVA to provide ongoing administrative and in-kind support, began programs in 2011. SVA continues its support, providing rent-free office and studio space, IT support, and more. David Rhodes, SVA’s President and Debi Farber, Chair of the Art Therapy Department, are both founding board members and remain active to this day.
As part of our fifth anniversary in 2012, we changed our name and refreshed our mission statement to better reflect the collaborative nature of our work; we became The Art Therapy Project (TATP) while the heart of our mission remained the same: helping trauma survivors through the creative process. Today, The Art Therapy Project has five full time staff members and contracts with 14 independent nationally certified and licensed art therapists to work with more than two dozen program partners and over 1,200 clients per year.
